The new visitors centre for NIAB is currently under construction, the building is due for completion in Feb 2013, and is on target for BREEAM Outstanding.

The building will be low carbon in construction and has been designed to be zero carbon in use. 

Museum Opens its New Doors

We're very excited to announce the re-opening of the Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology (MAA) at the University of Cambridge following an extensive refurbishment and re-modelling programme. The museum houses one of the most significant anthropological collections in the UK, in addition to significant local and national archaeological material.

NW Cambridge Appointment

RHP are very pleased to anounce that we have been selected to be part of the team delivering the NorthWest Cambridge urban extension for the University of Cambridge.

RHP have been selected to design 300 post-graduates rooms at the heart of the development, we're delighted to be part of the team and excited to be working with the client and masterplanning team (Aecom) and Wilkinson Eyre with Mole Architects; Mecanoo; David Chipperfield Architects; Cottrell Vermeulen Architecture with AOC and Sarah Wigglesworth Architects; MUMA and landscape architects from Aecom and Townshends.

Better than the Best Ever?

The Thomas Paine Study Centre (TPSC) at the University of East Anglia (UEA) designed by RHP has been described as possibly one of the best buildings ever following a Building Use Study (BUS) carried out by the Useable Buildings Trust/Bill Bordass as part of an ongoing review process by UEA with the benefit of a Technology Strategy Board grant.

The Elizabeth Fry Building at UEA has been described by Building Magazine as one of 'the best buildings ever' and had previously ranked top in BUS studies, but in conclusion the BUS study of TPSC concluded...

"TPSC now scores even more highly than the Elizabeth Fry Building, which was, when originally surveyed, one of the most well-liked buildings by its occupants in the whole database."

The first phase of our Impington Lane housing development on the former Unwins seed factory completed earlier this year, the first phase includes a range of 3 & 4 bedroom houses and 1&2 bedroom apartments.

Lowering Carbon in Business

"Will Hastings & St Leonards become a model for combining the mitigation of climate change with encouraging economic growth and development? A significant challenge being faced head on by a new international partnership called Answers to the Carbon Economy (ACE). This collaborative research and development project held its launch conference in St Leonards on Thursday 31 May..."

RHP were very pleased to be asked to talk at the inaugural conference of ACE, a new International Partnership promoting the reduction of carbon in business practice in cost effective and practical ways.  Phil Naylor & Nic Hoar presented details of RHP's involvement in the design of the Sussex Exchange Innovation Centre & the Enviro21 business park.

Shortlisted : North West Cambridge Development

RHP have been shortlisted in the competition to design student accommodation for the North West Cambridge development.  The competition has been led by Colander on behalf of the University of Cambridge.  RHP were selected from 48 submissions to join the six strong shortlist.

Colander the competition organisers said... "The breadth and depth of the submissions received was extraordinarily high and the Appointments Panel was faced with a cornucopia of talent, different approaches, ideas and collaborations to discuss. The final selection was difficult to make, as so many excellent submissions had to fall by the wayside but the resulting shortlist is a testament to the talent and expertise that is available across the architectural profession in the UK and Europe."

Measuring Sustainability: Comparing ‘Passivhaus’ and ‘BREEAM’

Sustainability can be a nebulous concept in the first place; so how do you go about measuring it?  Two well known metrics - Passivhaus and BREEAM - offer widely differing approaches.

R H Partnership have just completed a design proposal for an Enterprise Centre that is intended to achieve both the Passivhaus standard and the highest possible BREEAM ’Outstanding’ rating.

ACCA, University of Sussex

The Gardner Arts Centre was designed by Basil Spence and opened in 1969. The building, with its distinctive plan of radiating concentric circles, sits at the south east corner of the University of Sussex campus. 

The existing facilities closed in 2007. RHP have been working closely with the University and Ann Minors Performance Consultants (AMPC), together with Northcroft, Gardiner & Theobold, Sound Space Design, Hoare Lea, ZBP and Arup to develop a strategy for a 21st Century arts space within the existing Grade II* listed building shell. The building will include a series of multi-purpose studio spaces, gallery, flexible auditorium space for up to 350 people, café bar and associates storage and backstage areas.

Reinventing the Auditorium

The proposed £7.2m refurbishment and remodelling scheme will create the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts - a new building for a new age.

Earthship : Open Eco House

The Earthship in Brighton, was constructed in 2007 by the Low Carbon Trust with the help of RHP utilising recycled and waste materials.  The Earthship concept was developed in the USA by Mike Reynolds and provides a blueprint for constructing self-sufficient off-grid buildings utilising passive solar design principals, and incorporating grey water recycling, PV's, solar thermal panels and a wind turbine for on site power generation.

RHP are 'Secret Garden' Architects

Wrest Park has been described as Britains 'secret garden', RHP are proud to have been involved in the restoration of some of the key elements of the site over ten years, including the Archer Pavilion.  We have recently completed the new visitors centre and wish to congratulate all of those involved in helping unlock this secret garden and let people enjoy its doubtless charm.  For more information on the gardens and the project please follow the links below.

Wrest Park Archer Pavilion

The BASE : BREEAM Excellent

The BASE in Dartford is now fully open, well done to all those involved. 

The BASE provides over 30,000sq ft of affordable office, studio and workshop space for small businesses, and is strategically located at the heart of Dartford Town Centre as part of the regeneration of the towns northern gateway.  This scheme has been developed for Basepoint, SEEDA and HCA.

SPring into Action

The new gymnasium at the Sportspark at UEA is being handed over next week.  This £1.5m community facility has been constructed using a KLH timber panel structure.

Cambridgeshire BSF Update

Phase 1 of the redevelopment of Neale Wade Community College, March, is rapidly nearing completion, and we have now helped secure planning permission and financial closure on works at Cromwell Community College, Chatteris, & Sir Harry Smith Community College, Whittlesey.

Brighton Studio Official Opening

The ribbon has now been cut!.  Thank you to all of you who were able to join us for our official opening party, and a big thank you to all of those who helped make it happen.

Sportspark Gymnasium Takes Shape

The new Gymnasium at UEA Sportspark will provide a World class traning facility for gymnasts.  The building is the second extension we've undertaken to the original 10,000m2 Sportspark building completed completed in 2000. 

The Sportspark now has a 50m Olympic standard pool, a 12 court sportshall, a 9 court sports hall (completed 2009), squash courts, fitness suites, martial arts rooms and an internal 15m climbing wall.
